ADIF promises improvements on the railway line to Barcelona

Adif has earmarked an additional 22.3 million euros for investment in the Barcelona-Girona-Portbou railway line. The money will be used to install a new security and communication system. The money comes on top of the 57.5 million euros already allocated for work to improve the line.

The safety and communication system, including the Spanish ASFA automatic train protection system, will be installed on the Figueres-Portbou section of the mentioned railway line. It will be connected to the Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) in Barcelona. Improvements will also include the deployment of LED signage. The work will take just over two years, says Adif.

Among the projects already included under the previous €57.5 million investment is a new traffic management system in Caldes de Malavella. Work is underway to install a new security system between Caldes de Malavella and Girona. Between Maçanet and Caldes de Malavella, the electrification system is being overhauled. The same works are planned for the sections between Girona and Figueres and between Figueres and Portbou.
