Body found on Derbyshire railway line


A man has been found dead on a Peak District railway line. British Transport Police officers attended the scene yesterday afternoon (Sunday March 20), along with emergency medical services, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident on the Hathersage railway line near Hope Valley causing a number of major delays in rail services between Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly. An investigation is opened into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: ‘British Transport Police were called to Hathersage station at 3.04pm yesterday (20 March) following reports of an injury on the Paramedics were also present, but unfortunately a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a case will be prepared for the coroner.” No further details have been released regarding the impact of the incident.
