CBI arrests senior material manager of Chittranjan Locomotive Works, 5 others in alleged Rs 1.80 lakh bribery case

New Delhi [India]Feb 11 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the Chief Material Manager of Chittranjan Locomotive Works, Indian Railway, West Bengal and five others including directors of private companies, private persons in a case of alleged corruption, the agency announced on Friday.
According to the CBI, a case has been filed against the Chief Materiel Manager, (IRSS-1986) Chittranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), Indian Railway, West Bengal and five others, including directors of Chandigarh-based private companies and government officials / unidentified private persons. .
“It has been alleged that two directors of a private company based in Chandigarh being licensed vendors of Chittranjan Locomotive Works were in conspiracy with different senior railway officers to obtain undue favor from them in the awarding of a contract, adoption of bills, etc. by paying them illegal gratuity,” CBI said in a statement.
The defendants allegedly hired someone from another company as their company’s representative to negotiate with senior railroad officers, including the senior CMM, to obtain undue favor for their company.

It was further alleged that the accused persuaded the principal CMM to increase the order quantity of a (previously awarded) contract. It was also alleged that the official increased the quantity ordered in the supply order and demanded that the bribe be delivered to him through the said representative. It was alleged that the director of the private company handed over an amount to an employee of the said representative and gave instructions to hand over Rs.1.80 lakh to the said official for showing his favor to the company.
“CBI set a trap and apprehended the Senior Material Manager while accepting an undue advantage of Rs.1.80 lakh from the private person. After the trap, all other defendants were also apprehended,” the statement said.
The searches were conducted at 17 different locations in Delhi, Panchkula, Chandigarh, Varanasi and Chittranjan at the accused’s premises.
CBI said cash amounting to Rs.1.22 crore (approx), 500 grams of gold (approx) and documents relating to properties located in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Patna, Ranchi were recovered at the premises of the main CMM. Cash of Rs.32 lakh (approx) and incriminating documents were recovered from the premises of the other accused.
The two arrested directors of the private company were brought before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Chandigarh and were remanded to three days in police custody. Four other defendants were brought before the competent courts and were granted remand in transit for further production before the competent court in Chandigarh. (ANI)
