Suneet Sharma, Chairman of the Board of Railways and General Manager of the Ministry of Railways, visited the Central Workshop of Railway Locomotives, Parel on November 8, 2021. The Chairman of the Board of Railways and Head of the management received a traditional welcome at the Parel workshop with the customary Tilak, Aarti, Welcome song and knotting of a Saapha (Turban). Suneet Sharma has inaugurated the ZDM3 locomotive which will be used in the sub-Himalayan region of the Kangra Valley and the Kalka-Shimla railways. This locomotive manufactured by Parel Workshop is the 10th locomotive out of 12 locomotives in the Central Railway rolling stock program. L’Atelier has already manufactured and shipped 9 of these locomotives in 2019-20 and 2020-21. Central Railway Loco Workshop, Parel has set up a fine example of a commitment to ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, as all items for the locos were sourced locally.
The Chairman of the Board of Railways and CEO also inspected the car of the newly modified High Speed ââMotor Carrier (NMGH). Recently, Central Railway developed a prototype NMGHS coach with side entry and other improved features for loading automobiles. The NMGH coach, developed by Parel Workshop, Central Railway with improved features such as wider opening, solid checkerboard floor, natural lighting, pavement markers and retroreflective tape for guidance, improved layout of The drop plate for smooth entry and improved end door design with cylinder lock for ease of locking is the first of its kind on Indian railways.
A presentation of memories of Suneet Sharma during her tenure at Parel Workshop was made. Speaking on the occasion, Anil Kumar Lahoti, Managing Director, said: âDuring his tenure as Chief Workshop Manager, Parel, he played an important role in the modernization of the Parel workshop and now as chairman of the board of railways, he is a guiding force in its continued modernization. Anil Kumar Lahoti reaffirmed that Central Railway will do everything to keep the momentum going.
Sharma interacted with the staff and management of Parel Workshop and expressed her satisfaction with the work done by Parel Workshop. Walking in the past, Sharma relived the old times he had spent at the Atelier. He said that Parel Workshop’s greatest strength has been its ability to adapt to changing times. From the manufacture of steam locomotives to diesel locomotives until today, the workshop has always reinvented itself and has evolved with the times. He also said that the Parel workshop is one of the oldest and largest workshops on Indian railways.
Ashwani Saxena, Senior Chief Engineer, AK Gupta, Senior Chief Mechanical Engineer, Gopal Chandra, Senior Chief Electrical Engineer, Smt Ruby Ahluwalia, Senior Financial Advisor, Central Railway, Vivek Acharya, Workshop Foreman, Parel Workshop and other senior Central Railway officials were also present.
