Engineer injured after Finger Lakes Railway locomotive derails at Himrod


HIMROD, NY (WROC) — At least one engineer was hospitalized with minor injuries Monday during a Finger Lakes Railroad derailment in Himlrod, along the west side of Seneca Lake.

News 8 crew members on site say a single locomotive derailed and rolled over along the Himroad track. No other cars were behind the locomotive and no passengers were on board.

The train makes regular trips to and from a salt facility at Watkins Glen four times a week.

Crew members on scene say fuel was successfully extracted from the vehicle. Plum Point Creek, which runs alongside the railroad, was not affected by the incident.

Emergency personnel said the locomotive was on its way to hit various railcars.

Additional information has not yet been released by authorities. An investigation is currently underway to determine the causes of the train derailment.
