Locomotive driver electrocuted to death at Guwahati station


A locomotive driver died of electrocution at Guwahati station on the evening of January 18, officials said January 19.

The incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. at platform number 7 of the station.

According to NF Railway, public relations officer Guneet Kaur, the incident happened around 7:40 p.m. while train No. 15613 Guwahati – Murkongselek Lachit Express was at platform No. 7.

“With deep sorrow, we inform you that one of our railway workers, Rangiya Division Engine Driver, Shri Siba Saikia, breathed his last at Guwahati Railway Station on January 18, 2022,” a statement from the NF Railway on January 19.

“The duty driver of the train, Shri Siba Saikia of Rangapara North, while carrying out a check on the locomotive, was unfortunately electrocuted,” NF Railway added.

The deceased, Siva Saikia, was from Borpathar region in Golaghat district of Assam.

“The incident happened during the locomotive check. The autopsy is ongoing and his body will be taken to his hometown in Golaghat district,” Guneet Kaur said.

The NF Railway CPRO also said the Department of Railways will give all help and support to Shiva Saikia’s family members.

“Immediately after the incident, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and medics rushed to the incident site and found it to be undamaged. of death. Later, the body of the deceased was handed over to GRP officials at Guwahati station for further action. His body was taken to Gauhati Medical College & Hospital where after the autopsy; his body will be taken to Barpathar (Golaghat, Assam) from where he belonged. All assistance is being provided by the railway authorities,” the NF Railway statement added.

Guwahati station was exclusively served by diesel locomotive until recently when electrification was completed at the station. The first fully electric-powered passenger train to operate arrived at Kamakhya Station in Guwahati on October 22, 2021 while the license to operate electric locomotives until Guwahati station is received on November 4, 2021.
