A program was organized at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi on Friday under the aegis of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. The program aimed to empower young people by providing them with entry-level training in railway training institutes in various trades commonly used in the industry. The Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnav, launched Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana into the program. The Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, Sunit Sharma of the Railway Board and other senior railway officials were also present on the occasion.
AK Lahoti, General Manager of Central Railway virtually participated in the ceremony with the workshop foremen of the workshops of Matunga, Parel, Bhusawal where the training started.
At the ceremony, Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnav said it was an auspicious occasion as Vishwakarma Jayanti is celebrated across the country. He also expressed his birthday wishes to the Honorable Prime Minister on his birthday. Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana (RKVY) will contribute to the mission to Atmanirbhar Bharat and is also part of the series of initiatives in Azadi ka Amrit Mahostav, he said.
Skills development is a central element of the Prime Minister’s vision and 50,000 young people will be trained in the age group of 18 to 35 years under Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana including 2,500 in the 07 Central Railways training institutes located in Matunga , Parel, Nasik, Bhusawal, Nagpur, Pune and Solapur. These 7 training institutes are among the 75 shortlisted railway institutes across the country. The objective of the program is to impart training skills to young people in various trades such as electrician, welder, machining and fitter. Participants will receive 100 hours of theoretical and practical training over a three-week period. Applications will continue to be invited by these institutes of interested applicants periodically and participants will be selected through a transparent mechanism through the marks obtained at registration. The program of the various trades was drawn up by the locomotive workshop of Banaras.
