The North York Moors Railway has reopened for its 2022 season.
The line resumed service on Monday April 4 and will continue to operate this year until October 30. Visitors can also expect a number of special events during the season.
New for 2022, the Heritage Line also offers visitors suggested routes to help them plan their trips and get the most out of their steam train experiences.

This year’s confirmed North York Moor Railway events so far include:
Annual Steam Gala (September 22-25) – a chance to experience a range of iconic steam locomotives, as well as traction engines and the much-loved annual Beer Festival.
Light Spectacular (October 22-30) – enjoy an hour-long illuminated journey from Pickering to Levisham Station, with carriages adorned with 17,000 LEDs. A one-of-a-kind highly visual and audio event.
Santa Specials (select dates in December) – the ultimate festive family adventure aboard the Santa Express and the chance to meet and greet Santa and his elves in a truly unique setting.
Prices for the popular attraction start from £20.50 for children, £41 for adults and £84 for a family for full return tickets, with reserved seats, on the ‘Seaside Special from Pickering or the Yorkshire Express from Whitby. Shorter journeys are also available for purchase on the same day from booking offices.
Ideal for a day trip, the Heritage Line stretches for 24 miles and takes passengers through the stunning scenery of the North York Moors National Park. This includes Goathland Station, the filming location of Hogsmeade Station in the iconic film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It was also the home of the popular television series Heartbeat
Every penny spent by Heritage Line visitors on tickets, tea, cakes and souvenirs is plowed back into the funding needed to provide memorable visitor experiences, to look after the Heritage Railway’s volunteers and staff, and to ensure all northern charitable purposes. York Moors Railway are being delivered.
