A steam locomotive will pass through Skipton this Sunday

The 35018 British India Line steam locomotive will return to the main line and will be in Skipton and Ribblehead on Sunday 8 August 2021.

The tour departs from York with the British India Line at 9.44am to Carlisle, where it will pass through Church Fenton (10.01am), Micklefield (10.10am) and Cross Gates (10:21 am) before stopping in Leeds (10.00am). :30). From there the train will pass through Shipley (11:02 am), Keighley (11:16 am) before another stop at Skipton (11:34 am).

From there the train will head to Hellifield Goods Loop, passing through Gargrave at 11:42 am. After a stop at Hellifield, the locomotive will travel on the Settle and Carlisle line and pass through Ribblehead (13:16), Garsdale (13:30) and Appleby at 13:52 before stopping at Langwathby at 14:10.

From Langwathby, departure at 2:20 p.m., the locomotive will pass through Lazonby Kirkoswald (2:03 p.m.) before arriving in Carlisle at 2:24 p.m.

After approximately 3 hours in Carlisle, the British India Line will leave Carlisle at 5:34 pm for York. It will pass through Lazonby and Kirkoswald (5:59 pm) and stop to take water at Appleby (6:21 pm).

Continuing on the Settle and Carlisle line the British India Line will cross the Ribblehead Viaduct at around 7.14pm, continuing towards Settle the train leaves the Settle and Carlisle line at Settle Junction (7.27pm) where it heads towards Hellifield, where it will arrive at 7:33 p.m.

After leaving Hellifield the train will stop at Skipton (10:01 am), Keighley (8:16 pm) and Shipley (8:28 pm) before arriving in Leeds at 8:50 pm.

From Leeds, the train will make the short trip to York via Cross Gates (8:59 p.m.), Micklefield (9:06 p.m.) and Church Fenton (9:12 p.m.)

The railtour will arrive at its final destination in York at 9:26 pm.

In our latest column from Dereham, Mid Norfolk Railway Chairman CHARLIE ROBINSON shares his joy at the reopening of one of Britain’s longest historic rail lines.

The Mid Norfolk Railway is delighted to announce that we have resumed our heritage train service from Dereham to Wymondham Abbey after a sixteen month lockdown.

Much of the work, however, was completed when our trains were not running.

Four Mk 1 cars have had their bodies repaired and repainted and now look great with major upgrades to the interior as well while on the track two major level crossings, one at Yaxham Road, Dereham, and the other in Kimberley, have been completely renewed. Many thanks to Sonic Rail Services for all their help with the track works and also to all our staff and volunteers who completed this work and others under very difficult conditions like all social distancing rules and regulations etc. ., which were to be followed in time.

With trains running again, our first major event of 2021 will be our 1940s weekend on Saturday August 7 and Sunday August 8. There will be stands, exhibits and reenactments at Dereham station and exhibits at our other stations along the line to Wymondham One Abbey. With plenty to see on the grounds in front of the Abbaye train station with a flypast, why not take the opportunity to dress up in 1940s style clothing and have fun? Scots Guardsman steam locomotive 46115 will visit Carlisle this Saturday

The 46115 Scots Guardsman steam locomotive returns to the mainline tomorrow, as it leads a section of The Pennine Limited tour in Carlisle.

46115 will travel from Hellifield to Carlisle and return.

The tour will depart Norwich at 5:55 am behind a diesel locomotive, before heading via Wymondham (6:07 am), Attleborough (6:19 am), Thetford (6:38 am), Brandon (6:50 am), March (7:34 am), Peterborough (7:56 am), Newark North Gate (8:37 a.m.), Doncaster (9:07 a.m.), Shipley (10:33 a.m.), Keighley (10:41 a.m.), Skipton (10:55 a.m.) and Hellifield Goods Loop at 11:12 a.m.

Here, 46115 Scots Guardsman is added to the train, departing at 11:56 a.m., the locomotive will head via Ribblehead (12:24 p.m.), Kirkby Stephen (12:50 p.m.), Appleby (1:02 p.m.) and Carlisle at 2:03 p.m.

The return trip will see the 46115 leaving Carlisle at 3:46 p.m. before heading via Appleby (4:30 p.m.), Garsdale (5:14 p.m.) and Ribblehead (5:26 p.m.) before heading to Hellifield at 5:45 p.m., where the 46115 Scots Guardsman leaves train.

The diesel locomotive will take over from the train and run via Shipley (6:58 p.m.), Doncaster (8:11 p.m.), Peterborough (9:54 p.m.), March (10:18 p.m.), Brandon (11:00 p.m.), Thetford (11:12 p.m.), Attleborough (11:32 p.m.), Wymondham (11:42 p.m.) ) and finally Norwich (11:57 p.m.).

Meanwhile, the 46115 Scots Guardsman steam locomotive will form 5Z64 1755 Hellifield Goods Loops To Carnforth Steamtown, departing Hellifield at 5:55 p.m., the steam locomotive will pass through Settle Junction at 7:26 p.m. and Carnforth at 8:19 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

New locomotive exhibit arrives at 1: 1 museum project in Margate – The Isle Of Thanet News

After a lull of about 14 months, another locomotive arrived for the 1: 1 museum project in the old goods receiving building on the former Hornby factory site.

The last locomotive to arrive was just before the pandemic when a Eurostar Driving car and a trailer car were delivered. During the pandemic, the only surviving “Beaver Tail” Coronation Observation Trainer was also delivered. It is understood that the restoration of this lone survivor cost over £ 1million.

The newcomer entered the site around 5:30 p.m. yesterday (August 3) on an Allelys Heavy Haul trailer, after getting off the Severn Valley Railroad at Bewdley. The exhibition is a locomotive of the 37, 37 190 series, in blue BR livery with solid yellow ends, with double brake (empty and air) and is fitted with frost protection grilles above the radiators and snow plow under the buffer beam.

37 190 was fitted with a central head code panel when built in 1964, by Robert Stephenson and Hawthorn Limited, and entered service as D6890 in the British Railways Green livery. It was assigned to Swansea Landore Depot, in 1973 under British Rail’s TOPS computer system, the locomotive was renumbered to 37,190.

On November 29, 1981, the locomotive left the West region and headed for Scotland at Eastfield Depot. A little less than a year later, he was transferred to Motherwell Depot. Locomotives of this type were required for steel traffic around Motherwell and it was renumbered again to 37,314 and named “DALZELL” after local steel mills. Exceeding requirements, it was stored in 1992 and officially withdrawn from service in 1993, in Large Logo livery at the time.

It was purchased for storage and transferred to the Midland Railway Center in Butterly. Renumbered to 37,190 and in the BR Blue livery, the locomotive performed numerous tasks on the Severn Valley Railway. However, in 2020 it developed a major engine failure and was sidelined, seemingly never to run again.

It left Bewdley early yesterday morning for the Jeremy Hoskins 1: 1 museum.

37190 is a CO-CO locomotive (each axle is powered) 3 axles per bogie, weighs 102 tons and has a fuel capacity of 890 imperial gallons, powered by an English Electric 12CSVT engine, with a top speed of 90 mph. It is a Type 3 diesel that develops 1,750 hp – often called “tractors” by enthusiasts because of their agricultural sound.

The 1: 1 museum is still under development and is not open to the public at this time. Its opening is scheduled for the next 24 months.

Locomotive Storage, which operates a storage and maintenance business of classic railway locomotives and heritage rolling stock, is converting its buildings to create the impressive Museum of British Railway Heritage.

The company purchased the former Hornby factory and warehouse in February 2017 and already stores rolling stock on the property which is adjacent to the Hornby offices, showrooms and visitor center.

British India Line steam locomotive will travel to Scarborough this Thursday

Steam Locomotive No.35018 British India Line will return to the mainline and will be in York and Malton on Thursday 5 August 2021.

The merchant navy locomotive carries the York-Scarborough section of the Scarborough Spa Express, which originates at Carnforth.

The heritage diesels will depart Carnforth at 7:40 am and pass through Hellifield (8:32 am), Skipton (8:53 am), Keighley (9:09 am), Shipley (9:20 am), Woodlesford (9:49 am), Church Fenton (10:20 am) and York Holgate Loop at 10:43 am, where 35018 British India Line supports the tour.

The steam locomotive will be in York between 11:18 am and 11:26 am

The train will then leave York, bound for Scarborough, where it will pass through Malton (12:03) and Seamer (12:23) before arriving in Scarborough at 12:31.

After approximately 4 hours in the seaside town, the 35018 British India Line will leave Scarborough at 4:41 p.m., passing through Seamer (4:49 p.m.) and Malton (5:13 p.m.) before arriving in York at 5:49 p.m., where the steam locomotive is removed from the train and replaced by diesel locomotives.

From York, the diesel locomotives will return to Carnforth via Woodlesford (7:18 p.m.), Shipley (8:06 p.m.), Keighley (8:17 p.m.), Skipton (8:33 p.m.), Hellifield (8:54 p.m.) and Carnforth at 9:46 p.m.

Transport Canada Updates Canadian Rail Operating Rules

The changes to the operating rules are the result of a ministerial order (MO 20-09) requiring the Canadian railway industry to “adopt new practices designed to improve safety and prevent uncontrolled movements during shunting, and to ensure that the equipment is properly secured when maneuvering. . “

Transport Canada has approved changes to the Canadian Rail Operating Rules to further reduce the risk of uncontrolled movement of railway material.

The changes are the result of Ministerial Order (MO) 20-09 issued in September 2020, requiring the rail industry to “adopt new practices designed to improve safety and prevent uncontrolled movements during shunting operations, and to make sure the equipment is properly secured while switching, ”according to Transport Canada. (This order was issued following the Transportation Safety Board of Canada’s investigation into a 2017 fatal accident at CN’s Melville Yard in Saskatchewan.)

The rules, announced on July 30, now prescribe:
• when speedbrakes are to be used during maneuvers “to ensure a consistent approach across the rail system”.
• measures to ensure that fixed equipment is secure during maneuvers in order to avoid uncontrolled movements.
• speed limits when maneuvers are carried out with a remote-controlled locomotive.

Transport Canada said the changes build on other measures to reduce the number of uncontrolled movements of rail equipment. Among them: Two ministerial orders were published in March, following the derailment on February 1, 2021 of a Goderich-Exeter Railway train running at the Goderich construction site. The first (MO 21-01) required railways to implement specific procedures for locomotive engineers to prevent uncontrolled movements due to unintentional release of a train’s air brakes; the second (MO 21-02) required the rail industry to “add an additional layer of defense” by proposing amendments to the Locomotive Inspection and Safety Regulations and the Canadian Rail Operating Rules ( REF) for approval by the Minister.

“Maintaining a safe, efficient and reliable rail system is essential to the continued success of the Canadian economy,” said Transport Minister Omar Alghabra. “Transport Canada continues to work to modernize its rail safety oversight and directly address the key safety risks facing the Canadian rail system.

In February, the Auditor General of Canada, the equivalent of the US Government Accountability Office, released a report criticizing Transport Canada for its overall effectiveness in overseeing rail safety.

Pramod Kumar joins as Managing Director North Central Railway

Pramod Kumar, an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) on Friday took over as Managing Director of North Central Railway (NCR).

Pramod Kumar is an Indian Engineering Services 1984 Exam Batch Officer and has served the Indian Railways in various capacities.

Having his privilege with Central Railway, he started his career as AEE / TD in Agra (while on probation) for a short period, after which he worked at the Junior and Senior scale at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works.

He has worked in various electrical engineering disciplines such as traction distribution, locomotive maintenance and operation, construction, general service at the Jhansi and Jabalpur divisions of Central Railway.

He was a pioneer in setting up Electric Locoshed in New Katni Junction.

One of his notable contributions was the commissioning of IR’s first high-rise OHE, while working as CPD / RE / Jaipur.

In addition to his extensive experience in technical issues related to domain knowledge, Kumar has extensive experience in general administration. He held the post of Director of Supplementary Divisional Railways / NWR / Jaipur, Director of Divisional Railways / NR / Moradabad, Senior Deputy General Manager, Southern Railway and currently he held the position of Additional General Manager / SECR / Bilaspur

Originally from a village near Khurja, Bulandshahar District (UP), Kumar has a long association with North Central Railway and with the area served by NCR. Kumar is an alumnus of Dayal Bagh Educational Institute, Agra, from where he graduated in 1984 with a BSc (electrical) engineering degree.

He served NC Railway at Jhansi Division in 2003-2006 and at NCR HQ in 2007-09.

His association with the town of Sangam de Prayagraj dates back to 2006, when he was Deputy Chief of Vigilance, CORE, then Headquarters of the RCN as Chief Electrical Service Engineer / Constn. until 2009, where he was associated with the planning and execution of various infrastructure works.

At a crucial time when NCR is going through a dynamic phase with the focus on expanding infrastructure, electrifying missing links and strengthening its health infrastructure, among others, Kumar’s accession as a new leader NCR with its vast and varied experience is expected to give a boost to ongoing infrastructure work and streamlining of train operations.

VK Tripathi, GM NER who has held the additional charge of GM NCR for the past seven months following Rajiv Choudhry’s retirement on December 31, 2020, welcomed Pramod Kumar and sent him best wishes on his new assignment.

After taking office, Pramod Kumar said his priorities will be the rapid completion of the on-going work without exceeding the timeframe and ensuring safe and efficient rail operations on the NCR.

Police appeal after boulders were placed on railway tracks in Leeds

British Transport Police have announced that they are investigating an incident on the railway line in West Yorkshire.

On Tuesday 29 June, just before 7 p.m., blocks were placed on the train tracks in Leeds near Redcote Lane.

British Transport Police said information had also come out of a group of people standing on the railway line at the same location on Saturday July 3.

These rocks could have caused damage to trains and other railway equipment, as well as endangering the lives of passengers and railway employees.

The abandoned southwest railway line where people claim to have seen a ‘ghost train’

Plymouth is home to many old and abandoned train lines and railway related artefacts.

Some have been deleted and are now used as pleasant Cycle paths, some are abandoned and overgrown. The one that runs through the heart of the city is widely considered “abandoned” – but in fact, it still functions to this day.

The train was once one of the main modes of transport and the lines crisscrossed Plymouth all over the world.

Railways and streetcars were in place throughout the city allowing people to travel from A to B but also allow goods to come and go from warehouses and fishing industries through the port.

Such a line still exists, in plain sight, skirting Tothill Park and separating Lipson from Prince Rock with hundreds of meters of metal, Plymouth Live reports.

The line once departed from Plymouth Friary Station, which is now demolished and better known as the White Friars Court and Friary Retail Park housing estate – you can still see the old pillars at the entrance today.

Despite the line leading nowhere and the track ending on the east side of the Tothill Road Bridge, in recent weeks shocked residents have been taken aback when they saw a moving locomotive.
