Popular heritage railway line announces season dates


ONE of the UK’s most popular heritage attractions, North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) has announced its 2021 season and will open the Heritage Line and stations from Saturday 15 May.

The railway will operate two trains to Whitby each day, as well as an intermediate service between Pickering and Grosmont.

The railway plans to operate with Covid-19 mitigation measures, through summer vacation, with pre-booked end-to-end services with a set departure and return time. The intermediate railway service between Pickering and Grosmont will allow passengers to hop on and off and explore Levisham, Goathland and Grosmont stations.

Daily services will go on sale to the public from April 26. Anyone who has already pre-booked for 2020 will be able to book again from April 19. All services will be advertised on a phased approach, as per government guidelines, and all passengers aged 16 and over, unless exempted, will be required to adhere to social distancing and wear a face covering.

Chris Price, Managing Director, said: “It was a huge relief when the government announced its roadmap, which now allows the railroad to plan and prepare for its reopening. It will be great to see the staff and volunteers getting the engines, stations, shops and tea rooms ready to welcome passengers again. ”

Passengers will be able to enjoy the first Pullman Train of the 2021 season starting Thursday, May 20, with a new Moorlander Spring Lunch Menu. Services will operate Thursday through Sunday each week, throughout the season. Pullman services will start operating from May 20 and can be booked online from April 19.

The railways that rent accommodation in Grosmont, Goathland and Levisham will reopen from May 15 and can be booked from April 19. Customers with a pending reservation will be able to book from April 12. Visitors can book to stay at heritage stations, starting Saturday. to Saturday, with unlimited travel along the line.

Passengers with exceptional charters and weddings will be contacted directly to book their special day. The railway will follow the directives and the exit plan of the government.

Mr. Price added: “In light of current government advice, we have made the difficult decision to cancel several of the special events scheduled for 2021. However, we are planning to host the annual Steam Gala, September 22-26. and Santa Claus promotions (Pickering and Grosmont) on certain dates in December from Grosmont and Pickering stations. ”
