Network Rail engineers will work hard this weekend to complete another section of the railway upgrade plan, to provide a more reliable railway for passengers.
Between Three Bridges and Brighton & Lewes, a replacement bus will be in service for people needing to travel this weekend on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 January 2021.
In addition, between Brighton and London Victoria, trains from the South will operate on a detour route via Horsham.
Work being completed will include 600m of a new runway from Haywards Heath to Copyhold Junction with another 800m between Preston Park and Three Bridges, as well as an upgrade to Gatwick Airport station.
Work will be completed for drainage on the line between Cooksbridge and Lewes as well as platform repairs at Cooksbridge and also maintenance work between Wivelsfield and Brighton.
Shaun King, Route Manager, Sussex said: “In order for trains to continue to run reliably, we must continue with our plan to upgrade railways to replace worn out tracks and other equipment. Hundreds of trains run on these tracks every day and by doing this work we can continue to improve their reliability and improve passenger journeys.
Angie Doll, Managing Director of Southern and Gatwick Express, said: “Please only travel if you need to. If you travel by train, you can rest assured that we are working hard behind the scenes to keep your trains and stations clean and safe. Allow extra time for your trip in case Network Rail works affect your route this weekend, and always remember the golden rules: hands, face, space. Wash your hands before and after each trip, wear a face cover, and keep your distance.
