The CBI has arrested the senior material manager, Chittranjan Locomotive Works, Railways, West Bengal, and five others, including directors of a Chandigarh-based private company, in an alleged corruption case.

A case has been registered against Ravi Shehkar Sinha, Senior Hardware Manager, and five others including Sonu Arora and Rajan Gupta, both Managers of M/s EC Blades and Tools Private Ltd, Chandigarh.

It has been alleged that the two directors of the Chandigarh-based private company, as an authorized vendor of Chittranjan Locomotive Works, were in a conspiracy with senior railway officers to obtain undue favors from them in the allotment of the contract and issuing invoices by paying their illegal gratuity. The suspects allegedly hired someone from another company, Praveen Vyas, as their company’s representative to negotiate with senior railway officers, including the senior material manager, to obtain undue favors for their company. company.

It was alleged that the suspects persuaded the senior material manager to increase the order quantity of a (previously awarded) contract. It was also alleged that the official increased the quantity ordered in the supply order and demanded that a bribe be given to him through Praveen. Praveen employees – Pawan Kumar Singh and Vinod Kumar – were also involved in the case.

It is alleged that the directors of the private company handed over an amount to an employee of Praveen and gave instructions to hand over Rs 1.80 lakh to the senior material manager.

The CBI set a trap and apprehended the senior material manager as he received a bribe of Rs1.80 lakh from a private individual. After the trap, all other suspects, including the executives of the private company, were also apprehended.

CBI detectives then carried out searches at 17 locations in Delhi, Panchkula, Chandigarh, Varanasi and Chittranjan at the suspects’ premises. An amount of nearly Rs 1.22 crore, nearly 500g of gold and documents relating to properties in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Patna and Ranchi were seized from the premises of the Chief Materiel Manager. An amount of almost Rs32 lakh and incriminating documents were seized from the premises of the other suspects.

The two arrested directors of the private company were brought before the Special Judge, CBI, Chandigarh, and taken into custody for three days. The other four suspects were brought before the courts and were granted remand in transit for further production at the competent court in Chandigarh.
