BELGRADE (Serbia), April 14 (SeeNews) – Serbia has launched a call for tenders for the rehabilitation of its section of the railway line between Subotica and Hungary’s Szeged, a notice published on the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure revealed on Wednesday. .
The selected partner must complete the work within 14 months from the date of commissioning, use at least 50% domestic materials and engage Serbian subcontractors, the notice says.
The deadline for submitting bids is May 6 and they will be open on May 7. A national or foreign legal person, or a consortium of national or foreign legal persons can participate in the call for tenders.
In October, the Serbian government said it hoped to complete the project to redesign the Subotica-Szeged cross-border rail line by mid-2022.
Serbia and Hungary signed a memorandum of understanding in 2019 to invest 55.8 million euros ($ 66.7 million) in the reconstruction of the Subotica-Szeged railway line, in order to increase the maximum speed of trains at 120 km / h and load capacity at 22.5 tonnes per axle.
Hungary plans to build additional sections of the railway line, connecting Szeged to Hodmezovasarhely, Bekescsaba and Baja, while the line can also connect to the Belgrade-Budapest railway, which is currently under reconstruction as part of the China-Central and Eastern European Country Cooperation Initiative (CEEC), the Serbian Ministry of Infrastructure said in 2019.
