The Bluebell Railway has issued its latest update on the progress of the Bulleid Battle of Britain Class Pacific Steam Locomotive No. 34059 overhaul Mr. Archibald Sinclair.
In 2021, most of the work on the boiler shrouds has been completed, the chassis has been redone and the frames painted. Pistons and valves for all three cylinders are in place, along with drive wheel springs, front and rear bogies, lubricators and Wakefield piping.
The brake linkage and brake shoes are mounted and attention is now focused on reassembling the movement. The railway is still looking forward to the restoration being completed later this year.
Although the current restoration is coming to an end, there will inevitably be maintenance to be carried out in the years to come, and of course in 10 years the boiler ticket will expire and the whole cycle will begin again. For this reason, the railway encourages supporters to become members of the Bluebell Battle of Britain Locomotive Group 500+ Club 2022 which continues to fund the locomotive.
The club will include at least 500 but no more than 1,333 entries for the year from March 2022 to February 2023 and entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, subject to availability. Each entry costs £15, with no limit on the number of entries an individual can make. Applicants must be over 16 years old. Registrations are not transferable.
Members will participate in monthly draws with four prizes each month. Draws will take place on the 15th of each month, with prizes of £25, £50, £75 and £100.
Prizes will be paid in cash or Bluebell Railway vouchers (subject to availability), at the discretion of the prize winner. If the winner chooses to receive vouchers, the prize will be increased by a bonus of £5. All winners will receive their check within one month of the draw.
