Steam locomotive 45407 and 62005 key to La Jacobite in 2022

Details for The Jacobite season 2022 have been released by West Coast Railways.

The magnificent train journey will return next summer between Fort William and the fishing port of Mallaig and towed by locomotives K1 62005 and Black 5 45407.

The steamship journey, made famous by the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films, will run each morning from April 4 to October 28, 2022. Afternoon services will also be provided daily from May 2. until September 30, 2022.

The breathtaking journey sees the mighty locomotives working hard on the steep inclines on the 84 mile round trip and is considered one of the most spectacular rail journeys in the world.

The K1 class locomotive was designed by AH Peppercorn and was built in Glasgow in 1949 and is perfect for this heavy duty job and bears the name “Lord of the Isles” which was originally given to a working K4. regularly on the roads of the West Highland.

The old, hardworking and reliable LMS Black 5 locomotive has been renamed “The Lancashire Fusilier” and is based in Bury and has been working the Jacobite route every summer for many years.

Many Jacobite wagons were actually used in the Harry Potter films, all of which are 1960s British Railroad Mark 1s. The brake is a composite of brake compartments, first and second class.

The first class is located in open cars (OF) rather than compartments, and the second class TSOs (Tourist, Second, Open in railway jargon)

Standard round-trip tickets cost £ 52 for adults and £ 30 for children.
