Survey for second Indo-Bangladesh railway line completed | Mobility News


The survey for the second Indo-Bangla railway link through Belonia sub-division of South Tripura district is complete, officials have said.

Tripura Transport Minister Pranajit Singha Roy has informed the State Assembly that Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is expected to visit the state on March 25 to inspect the ongoing projects .

Some new projects could also be launched by the minister during his visit to the North Eastern state. Roy was addressing the House on the Call for Attention motion moved by Treasury Bank Chief Whip MLA Kalyani Roy on “the need to further improve the overall management of passenger traffic and freight including increasing the number of passenger trains through the introduction of dual track rail services in the state of Tripura.

Responding to the query, the Minister of Transport said that on June 4, 2020, the government of Tripura had sent a proposal to ‘North East Region Vision 2035’ to upgrade the existing single line tracks to double lines to improve the connection railway as well as improving the number of passenger and freight engines.

Regarding the new projects underway, he said that the study of three new railway projects consisting of 30 kilometers long Belonia (India) – Feni (Bangladesh), Dharmanagar (northern district) – Pancharathal (northern district) and Kailashahar (Unakoti district) The railway is complete. Another project is underway to connect Dharmanagar in North Tripura with Belonia in the Southern district linking Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai and parts of West Tripura district.

“The investigative work for these projects has been completed and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on 21st January 2022 made a special request to the Union Railways Minister to incorporate the following projects into the railways budget of iron and provide the necessary financial assistance”, the transport minister told the house. Apart from this, the construction works of the Nischintapur railway yard which will connect Tripura to Akhaura in Bangladesh are nearing completion. “About 98% of the work is complete and 75% of the work for Sabroom Railway Yard is also complete,” he said.

According to the ministers, all these ambitious projects should be completed by the next fiscal year. “The construction of a 12.30 kilometer long Agartala-Akhaura railway link in Bangladesh which aims to increase the movement of passenger and freight engines between these two locations will soon be completed. The Ministry of DoNER and the Ministry of External affairs of the central government have extended all kinds of assistance for the rapid realization of the project.”
