The 61 km Karaikudi-Manamadurai railway section in Tamil Nadu will soon be electrified with 25 KW of power as the electrification works have recently been completed.

Southern Railway’s principal chief electrical engineer, AK Siddhartha, inspected the line last week. Traveling in an inspection train pulled by a diesel locomotive, Siddhartha checked the power line under the Sivagangai road flyover, the power poles on the Manimutharu bridge and other key points including electrification in the section curves.

Siddhartha interacted with trackers and assessed their knowledge of safety rules on this electrified route. He also ensured the availability of warning signs at stations and utility areas, warning people not to touch or approach high voltage lines. A speed test also took place. The train left Manamadurai at 2:20 p.m. and reached Karaikudi at 3:10 p.m. After the trial, Siddhartha said electric traction will start in the section in 10 days.

With this, another step towards zero emissions in Madurai Railway Division has been taken.
