The re-dedication of Locomotive marks an important milestone for the magazine

A locomotive that for 18 years proudly bears “our” name – The railway magazine – has been rededicated with additional nameplates to mark the magazine’s 125th anniversary courtesy of operator Freightliner.

Class 66 diesel (#66503) was named The railway magazine on February 17, 2004, but has now been fitted with additional nameplates saying “Celebrating 125 Years, 1897-2022”.

The new look was unveiled at a ceremony at Freightliner’s Midland Road depot in Leeds on August 9.

Celebrating the rededication of the locomotive, magazine editor Paul Bickerdyke said: “We are extremely proud that locomotive No. 66503 not only bears our name, but also celebrates our magnificent 125th anniversary – our ‘near centenary!’ – and I must thank Freightliner and its employees for bestowing this honor.

“The Class 66 fleet is the backbone of the modern rail freight industry, handling any job that comes their way, big or small, meaning rail fans will be able to see ‘our’ famous locomotive working hard across England, Wales and Scotland.”
