The work of doubling the Kottayam track is almost complete; locomotive performs a test | Travel

Kottayam: Work to lay a new parallel railway line has been completed between Chingavanam and Ettumanoor on the Kottayam road. Subsequently, a test run was carried out with a locomotive along a section of the new track on Friday evening.
The trial route covered the distance between Muttambalam and Chingavanam and passed the bridge over the Kodoor River.
Other work related to the doubling of the tracks continues today. For this, many regular trains have been removed.
Currently, works such as linking the various tracks at Kottayam Yard, installing signals and relocating overhead power cables are underway. Similarly, the platforms at Kottayam station are being extended.
The safety inspection of the new track is scheduled for May 23.
KSRTC services sought
With a large number of train cancellations announced on the Kottayam route for dual track works, regular travelers demanded that the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) organize buses between Ernakulam and Kottayam and on the section Kottayam-Kayamkulam. Paul Manvettom, a member of the Divisional Rail User Advisory Committee, submitted a memorandum to the Minister of Transport, the Chief Secretary and the President and CEO of KSRTC requesting additional services.
Incidentally, several government employees traveling to their place of work by train have already requested leave on days when popular services such as Venad and Parasuram were cancelled.
Meanwhile, KSRTC officials said the issue of train cancellations had been brought to their attention. More buses would be deployed in times of heavy traffic on existing services, a KSRTC official said.
