The Severn Valley Railway hosted its 2021 Steam Fall Gala September 16-19 and saw thousands of enthusiasts tour the Heritage Railway.
Despite two locomotive withdrawals, including 4953 Pitchford Hall and GWR 813, the reorganization of the schematics helped and allowed services on the railway, which connects Bridgnorth and Kidderminster, to operate with minimal disruption.
Night services also returned, along with an intensive schedule with freight trains.

“It’s really very satisfying that the SVR has done so well at this gala,” said Brian Malyon, chair of the Steam gala committee. “Considering the recent easing of restrictions on Covid-19 and the fact that we only reintroduced ‘hop on, hop off’ services a few weeks ago, I think we did so with a lot of success.
“We saw a full schedule of services, which included a number of freight trains between Kidderminster and Bewdley, as well as night runs on Friday and Saturday. Once again, the SVR rose to the challenge, and it was thanks to our volunteers, who during the four-day event, completed around 600 shifts between them, taking on roles ranging from the crew from the platform to the station staff and everything in between. “
